Biography

Latvian poet Ronalds Briedis (1980) graduated from the Latvian Academy of Culture with an MA in Culture Theory. Besides being a critic, writer and playwright he has worked as a librarian, and a content creator for the show about literature and culture “Bron-hīts” for radio NABA. Since 2001, he has been heading the Young Authors Seminar, and, from 2003, also the Literary Academy programme set up by the Latvian Writers' Union. He is a member of both the Latvian Writers' Union and the Playwrights Guild (2004). Briedis has been publishing his work since 1997, and his first collection of poems being well received by readers and critics was awarded the Poetry Days Festival award, as well as the Annual Literature Award for best début in 2004. Briedis' book of poems Karaoke was awarded the Ojārs Vācietis Prize in 2008. Selected poems by Ronalds Briedis have been published in Hungary (2005). He translates poetry from Russian and English (including the works of Brodsky and Shakespear). In 2016, his latest collection of poems Medicine Against Immortality/ Zāles pret nemirstību was published by "Neputns".
