Biography

Rimants Ziedonis, born in 1962, is a Latvian writer and poet. His début selection of poems was his 1980 publication in the Liesma magazine. His first novel Pļava/Meadow was published in the Avots magazine in 1987. His stories are part of the postmodernism genre, one of the examples being his eclectic collection Dzīves pieredze un ziepju burbuļi/Life Experience and Soap Bubbles, published in 1992. Rimants Ziedonis also writes travel literature and documentary works about nature, geography and people, such as a book about the Latvian crocodile hunter Arvīds Blūmentāls. Together with his father, poet Imants Ziedonis, he wrote a non-fiction work Leišmalīte which received the Egons Līvs honorary prize in 2013. Ziedonis is a member of the Latvian Writers' Union since 1991.
