Marts Pujāts

Marts Pujāts (born in 1982) is a Latvian poet, has studied philology and culture, and pursued copywriting. He started out in poetry in his teen years, and participated in youth poetry events and creative workshops and seminars, and his distinctive creative voice was recognised at a rather young age. His first book of poems Knock Knock for Myself received the Klāvs Elsbergs prize as a manuscript, before it was published in 2000. His poems have been published in Moscow, translated into Russian by Alexander Zapol (also known as Semyon Khanin). Marts Pujāts is an author of three collections of poetry. His poetry has been included in other publications, for example, the Russian-Latvian bilingual collection За нас/Par mums/About Us, and in Six Latvian Poets, translated by Ieva Lešinska, published by Royaume-Uni, Arc Publications in 2011. He collaborates with musicians, and has written lyrics for the music producer and composer Andris Indans and his celebrated electronic music project Gas of Latvia. His poems have been published in Swedish, Lithuanian, English and Bulgarian.
