Marija Luīze Meļķe
Biography
Marija Luīze Meļķe, born in 1997 in Cēsis, is a multimedia artist and a representative of the youngest generation of Latvian poets. She lives in Riga, and is currently in her final year of studies at the Rozentāls Art School. Besides taking art courses, she frequently participates in various cultural events with her own work, and is one of the three editors for the new art and literature magazine “Žoklis” (“Jaw”), as well as a member of creative teams at Popper Publishing and illustrated text-zine “Ķekargalvis/Hydra Head”. Despite having a decent resume and experience in various fine arts, M.L. Meļķe regards the medium of poetry to be unique and irreplaceable, therefore she is always honing her poetic language skills and knows how to appreciate her achievements in literature. Her poetry is mostly premièred during readings rather than in published form since the poet prefers to be present in the moment when her text reaches the audience.
