Maira Dobele
Biography
Maira Dobele (1976) is a Latvian author of prose for youth audiences. She is deeply involved in the field of film, particularly working as a director and scriptwriter in the documentary genre, which she studied in Aalto University, Department of Film, Television and Scenography. Majoring in Documentary film. Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts (Art and Design). Maira Dobele is also a journalist writing news for the Latvian Radio, writes for the magazine "Rīgas Laiks", and has published stories in other literary platforms, such as "Satori.lv". Maira's writing is engaging, has great sense of reality and relates to actual issues faced by children and young adults on their way to discovering their identities and coming of age. Her début book for young readers The School of Living Wrong/Nepareizas dzīves skola (published by “Liels un mazs”) was presented with the Annual Latvian Literature Award and well received among readers, its illustrator Anete Melece also gaining international recognition. Since 2003, she lives and works in Finland.
