Anete Melece
Biography
Anete Melece (1983) is an author, illustrator, animation artist and director whose works stand out with witty details, charming characters and sincere stories. Currently based in Switzerland, she has published her illustrations in magazines such as Kuš!, Strapzin, Internationale etc. Her animation films have received awards at multiple international film festivals, including the Swiss Film Award for the Best Animation Film in 2014 for the film The Kiosk (2013). In 2019 The Kiosk was published by Liels un mazs. Both the film and book illustrations feature recognisable places of Riga urban environment. The kiosk itself has a real prototype — an empty press kiosk in the centre of Riga. The Kisosk has been translated into more than 20 languages.
