Agnese Vanaga

Agnese Vanaga (1985) is a Latvian children's book author and scriptwriter. With a background in journalism and communications project management, Vanaga made her literary debut in 2014 with "Mazo latvju pirmie vārdi" [First Words of Little Latvians]. Her follow-up book, "Plastmasas huligāni" [Plastic Hooligans], released in 2019, addressed environmental issues and received acclaim from the Children and Young Adult Jury. It was also shortlisted for the prestigious International Jānis Baltvilks Prize in Children's Literature and Book Art. This impactful story was adapted into a play and an animated film titled "Dusmukule" [Angerbag] produced by the animation studio "Animācijas Brigāde".

The success of "Plastic Hooligans" has led to a series, including "Plastic Hooligans: The Friend is Lost" (2020) and "Plastic Hooligans: It's a Nightmare!" (2023).

Vanaga's "Pagalma enciklopēdija jeb Kas tad tas?" [Garden Encyclopedia or What's That?] was honored as the favorite children's book of 2021 in the Children and Young Adult Jury reading promotion program for the 5-9 age category.

The author enjoys addressing kids through stories that blend knowledge and humor, encouraging them to read, explore, and imagine.
