Biography

Sergey Moreino was born in Moscow in 1964, where he graduated from Moscow State University of Physics and Technology. He moved to Latvia in 1987 and has been working as an independent author and translator since 1988. Member of the Union of Latvian writers (since 1991). Moreino published more than  30 books of poetry, translation, prose, essays. More than 500 publications in Latvia, Russia, Poland, Germany, Israel, Estonia, Lithuania. He writes in Russian and Latvian, translates prose and poetry from German (e.g. the, Gottfried Benn, Johannes Bobrowski, Paul Celan, Günter Eich, Durs Grünbein, Karl Krolow, Klaus Merz, Ulf Stoltefoht, Georg Trakl), Latvian (Maira Asare, Uldis Berzins, Aleksandrs Čaks, Juris Kunnoss, Jānis Rokpelnis, Ojārs Vācietis) and Polish (Zbigniew Herbert, Roman Honet, Ryszard Krynicki, Czesław Miłosz, Wojciech Pestka et al.). Moreino is an editor of the Translation series “Gеография перевоdа” (Geography of Translation) by the publishers “Русский Гулливер” (Russki Gulliver, Moscow). Moreino is the winner of the “Russian Prize” award (2008), Translation House Looren award (2016) and many others; longlisted for the “Master” awards of the Guild of Translators (2014–2015). Moreino holds various translation workshops. He lives in Saulkrasti, Latvia.
