Biography

Britta Ringer was born in 1985 and grew up near Bremen in Germany. She holds a Bachelor degree in Baltic and Slavonic studies from the University of Greifswald. In 2000, a school exchange brought her to her hometown’s twin city, Madona, and she started taking Latvian classes after this experience. Many more visits to Latvia ensued, including an eight month European Voluntary Service and an Erasmus student exchange at the University of Latvia. Britta Ringer moved permanently to Riga in 2010, where she has since been working as a German teacher at Berlitz language school, kindergarten teaching assistant at the International School of Riga and as librarian and Social Media manager at Goethe-Institut Riga. Furthermore, she has been active as a freelance translator since 2010, amongst others translating the libretto of Liāna Langa’s and Artūrs Maskats’ opera Valentīna, online articles for the Goethe-Institut website and a variety of short stories and excerpts of children’s fiction by Inga Žolūde, Luīze Pastore, Juris Zvirgzdiņš, Māra Cielēna and Maira Dobele.
